Similar situation at a different establishment. I had a bank TELLER REFUSE to deposit money because a SHE said it smelled like some sort of chemical!? FYI I closed my accounts at Lacamas Credit Union, move to another credit union and I've never been happier. Since then Lacamas was bought out by iQ Credit Union. Poor customer service... always accept American money

From what i have read, yes they can. Although it is considered legal tender they are not required to accept it. It's similar to places like Subway not accepting large bills.
