Why are the food items often $2 or $3 more per item here in a town that has no other local options for reasonably priced groceries It seems nearly usurious if not an act of greed in a community of lower income people.

Apparently you don't know the owners. They are one of the the biggest contributors to the success of the city - both financially and with resources. A&J is not a gouging operation. Prices are the best they can be in a remote location. This is a top notch operation and deserves better than accusations.
