When we went we needed a pass we bought in town because the parking area is on native land. We were told discover pass isn't valid there.
Yes, there are about 10 parking spots at trailhead. You will need to have an annual permit to park there. Just stop by the stores in the town, or the RV camps on the road there. They sell it in the office.
Yes! The hike is maybe a 1-2 miles. You need to have a discover pass to park for free. We've been almost every time of year and always need waterproof hiking boots for the amount of mud on the path. It's a beautiful day trip
