It was built for transporting logs to Simpson Timber Co in Shelton, WA. At some time it was converted to a paved road way for tourists.

They built it so they could cut down the old growth forest and eradicate the enormous 300' tall Douglas firs. Trees that size no longer exist :). Yay capitalism!
