If the vehicle is in their name, you can meet them at the Licensing department to do the transfer legally.

It wouldn't hurt. I mean, just get a bill of sale with the release of interest. You probably won't need it, but why not? You can also run a VIN # on NICB. But be cautious! Make sure that the person whom is signing a notarized release of interest is the person who's name the car is actually in. You can take the individual down to the licensing sub agent with you and then you'll know for sure. I bought a car and trusted someone and it turned out the car had a lien on it... So be careful.

No they lost orginal title. I asked on here yesterday about can I put car in my name with a affidavit of lost title and I was told yes as long as it is dated and singed I called as well but I'm just wondering if I just have her make bill of sale
