Weekends are busy Times. Especially when the weather is warmer. Go as early as you can and try the walk-up line. You may have to wait but they have heaters and fire pits. Be sure to dress warm and wear good boots for snow to keep your feet warm.
When we went there was hardly a line and not everyone prepurchased tickets. This was at 6:20pm too. I think the key is how busy it is there.

Purchase tickets for the time slot u want ahead of time online. Avoid the lines, certain times fill up and u might have to wait for a time slot to open up.
They do keep some general admission but not a guarantee that they quill have any available.
The website says to purchase tickets online for the time youll arrive to avoid it being over crowded.
