There should be a sign that tells you which way to go and get you to an area where you can either park or somewhere you can pull off to a shoulder and pick them up
Usually you can pick them up from the baggage claim area for American Airlines but also make sure to part your car in one of the available parking spots this way it is not towed for being in front of the terminal
You can wait in the cell phone parking lot till they call you then drive to arrivals and find their airline.
