Have had great luck shelling on St.Jo's (San Jose Island) must take the Jetty Boat from Port Aransas $12 per person pays for trip there and back. Jetty boat office is on Tarpon St. Another place have had good luck with is at Padre Island National Seashore past big shell beach. You will need a 4wd vehicle though.
Over by port aransas is ok shelling and national sea shore has some shells. Big shell is an area down the national seashore a good clip, called big shell for a reason.
It is actually When and not where. The best time is right after a storm.
I didn,t see many great shells in that area, but Packery channel towards CC bridge interesting shoreline walk.
