You don't need a reservation to have a day trip at the park. You might want to get a year pass so you can go to any state park free. Also if you stay overnight at any state park it's cheaper. And paddle boats cost a little more. There is another state park that is nice this time of year. Lost Maples it would be free to if you have a yearly pass
Reservations are only for camping spots. Day trips do not require reservations. Paddle boats are available but I don't believe year round.
You don't need to make a reservation if you are just going for a day and they do rent paddle boats they rent them for an hour
