Really the best deals are at the mountain. You can stay in the town but it's still a 10-15 min drive. The resort gives packages for ski and stay or waterpark and stay. The bars and restaurants are great and there is a general store. We stayed in a condo with 4 people, Ski-in ski-out for a little over $1400. That was for ski and stay two nights. You pay for the two day passes at a discount and they comp your arrival day.
There are condos in the village that can sleep 14 people
I like the woodshed inn. Two miles from the mountain. Around a hundred bucks a night with breakfast. Old school Vermont inn. Google Jay Peak B&Bs. Its cheaper than staying on the mountain. Unless you really want ski in/out. If you buy you tickets on line you can get away with $100 p/p ski and stay a day
Moderately priced inns & b&b's west on 242 in Montgomery Village... or cheaper, from Jay Village on 242 take the Cross Rd north a couple miles till it intersects with a primary highway (that's 105) turn left go up, over and down the mountain about 15 miles to Richford, turn right, go down to the bridge... the Grey Gables Mansion (turn left) or the Crossing (turn right) the Crossing offers food and drink!
Grampa Grunt Lodge in Montgomery Center is the best deal if you don't care about luxury
IMHO....too expensive...problem here is....there are not too many other options..the Jay Peak hotels are overpriced just because of lack of competition around here..... You can try airbnb website for some acommodation in small towns close to the mountain....or to find really special deals at the JayPeak hotel.. ( but all members of the group have to ski to take a full advantage of their packaged pricing..I think they call those ski vacation and ski/swim vacations)....it can get quite expensive though.... Not exactly low budget options here..haha
We rented a house 15 minutes away... after skiing we stayed at the water park.... The drive wasn't bad... I think it all depends on your budget...
