Construction was stopped before the Civil War. The claim is that Stumphouse Mountain was too tough tame
Looks like the history is covered. There is an information bord there to read the rest. The tunnel is super cool and cool in temperature as well. Easy to get to no hiking. Slight very short up hill walk.
