It's just company policy, there is always a 2 item minimum for every show. Most comedy clubs have similar policies. Ticket prices cover the cost of the talent and the items purchased pay for operations and salaries of staff
The two item minimum is necessary for the operation of the club. Its the same reason concessions are so expensive at a movie theater. Ticket sales go to the act/studios. In order for the clubs to make money and continue booking acts, we habe to buy drinks and/or food.
Not necessarily. They're trying to drum up business, and purchasing their food and beverages is the best way for them to make money. You can just buy a couple of drinks, even just sodas, and leave it at that. But if you don't purchase a anything to eat or drink, they're not going to kick you out. It was a really fun night, the food and drink are decent and if you received free tickets, the laughs are free!
This is the only comedy club I've ever been to that had a 2 item minimum. It's really irritating.
