It's easier to fish at Don White or a little farther down Azalea which has a easy slope to the river.
Actually, I see fishermen at the creek dock and many at the volleyball court area down the road and at Don White under GA400. I don't know if you need a fishing license
Fishing in the Chattahoochee is legal as long as you have a license. The river itself is a national recreation area and the DNR stocks it with rainbow trout. Fishing access at Riverside Park is possible via the small overlook dock or along the bank of Big Creek as it enters the river. There are definitely better access points in other parks along the river.
