How far is the hike to the bridge, roughly? Is it very steep? I ask because my wife has some knee problems and I need to know what the walk is like.

When you get there you park across the street and walk across the road to a set of steps made of stone.... I would say these steps are just a little bit steep but not too bad the steps are very wide and also has hand rails. I am guessing here but I think there are only 5 steps down then you will be standing on top of the bridge when you get down them. The river will be under you. This is one of my most favorite places to go. I honestly do not think this is a very strenuous walk. It is not far at all from where you park to walk across the road and the steps to walk down that lead you to be on top of the bridge. I would guess about a football field between your car and standing on the bridge after you walk down the stone steps and everything. I hope this helps and I hope you and your wife get to go it is beautiful and an amazing part of our history. I love it here !

The walk to the top of the bridge is very short. You just walk down about 20 steps. If you want to go to the bottom of the bridge, it is a tad steep but short as well. I have knee issues and I was fine walking it!

Its definitely worth the trip. As long as it hasn't been raining either. Sometimes it can be slippery
