It is not mandatory to make a reservation but I highly recommend it on very busy days, Valentine's, Mother's Day, etc. Otherwise you can just walk in.
I have gone twice and was seated right away. I agree that a bigger party may benefit from making a reservation.
We have walked in and gotten a seat, but if you have a big party I would reserve!
it is possible to sit without reservation.
