Hi, NEADS dogs are trained to meet the needs of the individual the dog is matched with. We must identify which dog has the skills and temperament for each applicant -- this process ensures a successful and lasting partnership. Therefore, the wait time varies depending on whether we have a dog that meets the needs of the applicant. We do not expect you to raise the $8,000 prior to receiving a Service Dog. Once you are accepted into the program, we have a dedicated staff member who will work with you to help you fundraise.

Susan, I don't recommend NEADS because yes you have to raise the $8,000 before you receive a dog. There is many other organizations that you don't have to fund raise or put any money down. I don't think they should require you to raise money in order to receive a service dog. You need a service dog to help you because you have a disability and NEADS want you to raise the money before you get the dog. Look somewhere else. Dogs for better life is great.
