The recipe is a secret, but isn't copyrighted, the NAME "Garbage Plate" is a trademark and the owners are Nick Tahou's. So other places selling this (or something similar) in the area call it "Trash Plate", " Plate, etc. The original meat sauce recipe is a closely guarded secret although I can tell you that it has a barbecue flavor. If you want the original plate, there are only 2 places to get it from - Nick Tahou Hots and another place named "Henrietta Hots" which is run by another family member.

Sorry, but I cannot imagine someone being sued over what you cook in your own kitchen. Make it and call it garbage plate. You just can't sell it publicly.

The hot sauce will never be 100% like nicks. And if you make them yourself you legally can't call it a garbage pla. Nic tahous ons the patent for that name. They have sued people over it before.
