The original. When I said I was coming to Rochester, my friends from the area all said I had to try a Garbage Plate and I needed to try the original. It’s quite the dish and definitely worth a try.

Hey folks, listen I've been in Rochester over 20 years now and have visited Nick Tahou's twice. Now I know the history and have heard many times how great it use to be but it seems like it's fallen on hard times. Their specialty us the garbage plate and it looks great, but the other items I was left disappointed (/burger with no options of lettuce or tomato for one). Still won't give up on this landmark establishment but someone there needs to set in, set up and show out!!

First time visiting "the original" home of the garbage plate - boy did I miss that scrumptious garbage plate combos that I remembered getting at 3AM after a college night on the town. As others mentioned, place is run down which we didn't mind one bit, almost feels like nostalgia. Staff was overly friendly and we felt so welcomed!! I enjoyed my plate, definitely felt like it was missing something though but couldn't put my finger on it (I did end up adding ketchup to it too). The macaroni salad was AMAZING, my favorite part for sure. My guest who had never had a plate before was less than thrilled. He thought the burgers were very overcooked and lacked in flavor. Sadly his favorite part was the bread served with it. Would go back again.

The inside of the building looks like the set out of Saw, the food looks like its out of a college dorm room after a frat party. This is a classic American spot that people from all over come to enjoy. There were people in suits and …

Agree with Erick. I haven't waited more than five mins at any time.
Yes
Definitely trademarked. And you won't be able to get the real sauce recipe ever as it is a SECRET Family recipe. Nick himself didn't pass it on til he was at the end
Nick passed away in 1997. Alex, Nick's son, is the owner now.
They have morning Star veggie burgers that you can have a plate made with. Jus don't get the meat sauce!
The garbage plate. No doubt about that. You need to try the original and the process of it to appreciate all imposters.
They use their own house made sauce on everything. Don't believe it's tomato based.
Not sure! But the garbage plate is the best!
It's the name of what the restaurant is famous for!! The garbage plate a Rochester NY staple!!
I had a friend bring 2 plates on a plane when he visited. The whole plane smelled I am told.
No, it's not good. It's GREAT!!!!
