It depends on what membership you are talking about. Everyone will need the basic $5 membership on top of the bay rental fees, which vary based on the day of the week and the time. Unless you plan on visiting A LOT over a few months there's no reason to get a more expensive membership. Their website has all the costs pretty well detailed.
Technically, you can have as many as you want at your table. It comfortably fits 6 - 8. The game is designed for a max of 6 that can play. That's what the platinum membership allows. Btw, I am a platinum member.
