They will take any reservation anytime, but thanksgiving is a must. Other than that, no you won't need one.
For Thanksgiving reservations are needed. Every other time we've gone, we've been seated right away. If you have a large party, I would recommend making a reservation just to ensure that table space is available for all of you.
You can make reservations but you don't always need to. However, there is sometimes a line, so with reservations they take you right in.
We have been there more than several times. Never needed resv.
