How old do you have to be to buy R rated tickets? My son and friends want to see it and they are all 17.

I thought it was 18....🤔🤔🤔 It most definitely was in the late 90's, as I worked at a movie theater... The NC17 addition to the ratings was to let parents know that they shouldn't be letting their 17 year old children view it...soooo....🤷🤦🤷
