I don't believe they are. There is a mini police station housed in the Meijer gas station there and they patrol constantly. I would think openly carrying would have police there very quickly. There isn't anything posted stating weapons aren't allowed, but higher crime in that area may have them on high alert, and a visible weapon could send people into a panic more than it would in the suburbs.
Of course, you just cant walk into an establishment with a weapon like its ok. You should respectfully ask and notify the security if you are going to do so. It worked for me. (I conceal carry. I am a slim black woman and my guns look bulky on me.) I dont need any problems. They didnt have any problems with me doing so. You should always check the gun laws and the facility to see if you can legally do so, anyway.
True
Don't know I don't live in in Detroit anymore
I too carry a weapon but I don't feel it's necessary while just grocery shopping.it's usually in the car.
Syreeta Williams, I already know it's legal because there is no law banning open carry in Michigan. That hasn't changed. I also know Meijer as a company abides by state law and allows open carry in their stores. I've open carried in the Southfield, Warren and Sterling Heights stores with no issue. I was inquiring about this specific store based on the negative reaction a friend received while shopping there. There is no need to ask security or notify anyone to do what the company itself allows. I was honestly just asking if anyone else knew of this store acting outside of company policy or if anyone else received a negative encounter like my friend while open carrying. And for the record unless it is expressly stated by law, not policy, that firearms are not allowed in an establishment, it is perfectly legal walk in carrying concealed or open. Also, no gun signs do not carry the weight of law in Michigan.
Give them a call that is the best way to be sure....
Haven't heard anything about it
