Could you leave (to eat somewhere else) and then re-enter with your same ticket?

In August 2019, we visited the Point Defiance Zoo. Around noon, I left the park, retrieved lunch from the car, and re-entered using my admission ticket. Before leaving, I asked the clerk if I could leave and re-enter and the person said yes.
