To switch from a NY license to a California license ( I am now residing in Santa Monica) Is bringing my passport and birth certificate with me enough identity proof? I have a social security number but I don't have my original social security card.

If you are getting the Real Calif ID, you need bill or invoice from where you live with your current address.

For the Real ID you will need to bring proof of residency. An insurance policy or utility bill with your current address will suffice. You won't need to present your social security card if you have your passport and birth certificate. Scheduling an appointment will be helpful.
