Park admission jjst gets you and your car load into the park. The tours of balcony house and cliff palace are extra. You can get tickets for the tours at the museum near the park entrance or at the visiters center. If you want to see either of these places, a tour is required as you cant go on your own. I would recommend cliff palace as it is the easier of the two and there is no crawling required. Tickets are $5 per person. If you are worried about physical limitations, go to the museum at the park entrance to see what your up against. The people that work there are very helpful. Camping is also extra. I dont believe any of the sites have hookups. I think it is around $30 per night, but im not sure. The sites can be close together, but the showers near the camp store are the best showers ive seen in any campground. They are old and maybe a bit dirty, but you have all the room you need and the shower heads are divine. Please dont poop in the showers...
Park fee is $20. Its good for 7 days snd basically allows you do any self guided tour you want. If you want a guided tour ir cliff palace, long house or the other major site they are $5 per person per site. ALSO !!! Tickets can only be bought in person abd no more that two days in advance. So plan accordingly if you have a short trip or a certain time. Google MESA VERDE RESEARCH and SCIENCE CENTER. You can get tickets there and they are very helpful. Also... The 3 sites are each about an hour drive into the park and the guides request you are there early so leave plenty of time.
We got an America the beautiful pass for all national parks, military ( free) but I believe it is 25 or 30$ right now. We did a tour it was $5 per person plus park entrance fee. It's worth the trip and the fee😊The America the beautiful pass is $80 Also
I had a pass I bought awhile back that gave me access to any National Park entry for 5years so I didn't pay any entry fee at Mesa Verde... I do believe there was a very small fee to register a spot in a guided tour --- the tours are worth going on as they provide the only access to the most popular and best preserved cliff dwellings! I didn't have any kind of long wait to go on any guided tour so the small fee was perfectly reasonable! I'm a Land Surveyor so any climbing & crawling wasn't anything I'm not already used to in my job! I really don't think the physical efforts required are very strenuous unless you're handicapped or otherwise in poor health of some sort ... enjoy the place in every possible way - it's a really spectacular park!
The Spruce House tour is not available this year, but it is visible from a distance. The Balcony House is a great tour. The park guides add alot to the tour, which go into areas not accessible on self guide. Check with the park to confirm that tours are approximately $5 per person. The tours make the experience in this park! Otherwise, you are merely window shopping. Have fun and enjoy! Be sure to have enough fuel in your vehicle for 100 or so miles in the park. Stop at the lookouts along the main road to enjoy the 50-60 miles of 360° view, especially when the sun is low in the sky. Also check with park for fire and smoke levels if there are current fires in the 4 corners area. The smoke will decrease range of view and may affect breathing.
You have to pay for guided tours. There is also a cost for your vehicle to enter the park. There are self guided tours in the park that do not come with any additional fee after the entrance fee.
Ranger-guided tours of Cliff Palace, Balcony House, and Long House cost $5 each and are offered regularly during the operating season. Less periodic tours of Square Tower House and other sites are offered less frequently and cost about $25. The former are sold at the visitor’s center while the latter can be purchased through recreation.gov.
