This is a great trail for snowshoeing! From the Hessie Trailhead it was a 4 mile round trip. The lake is frozen this time of the year and there are some gorgeous views!

The parking is terrible so keep that in mind. Carpooling will save you a lot of trouble. We parked 2 miles away from the entrance to the trail. Beyond that, it was gorgeous. We got 5 hours out of our hike, taking our time to enjoy the scenery, the water, and the snow. Some of the trail gets crazy slippery after the snow melts into icy dirt. Hiking sticks and grippy shoes are recommended during the cold weather.

Moderate hike. Absolutely gorgeous end at a beautiful lake. Parking is PACKED. Do yourself a favor, park at Nederland High and take the shuttle. When I got there on a Sunday around 12 I took the last parking spot at the SCHOOL. The driver said there’s usually a line for the shuttle at the school. I’ve recommended this to all of my friends and it’s been a go to hike for me. Pretty easy… might take a couple of breaks on the way up but nothing to strenuous for someone who is acclimated. I recommend bringing lunch or a hammock to relax by the lake. It’s beautiful.

Amazing hike! Not too hard, well marked and beautiful views! I’d recommend going around the lake to get the whole mountain view! They have a shuttle at the bottom to bring you to the trail due to parking.

I believe Lost Lake has been closed due to bear/human problems. https://www.outtherecolorado.com/news/dangerous-bear-closes-recreation-spot-in-colorado-until-further-notice/article_f72332dc-c12d-11ea-a653-f37fb00cee47.html
No, its just outside Indian Peaks Wilderness and therefore doesn't require a permit. I verified this with the Boulder Ranger station on Friday May 29th. All the other trails that lead in (devils thumb, etc) are long enough to reach the Indian Peaks Wilderness, just not the Lost Lake trail.
