We need more places like this in Oregon and everywhere. My mom was one of the founders of the dining hall and I have volunteered here for years

I live 25 blocks away and this religious affiliate thinks it's okay to put propaganda into my mailbox? Yeah right. If I want to help someone I will, without the pretext that I'll be going to heaven first. This place is rude, the staff are unfriendly and I honestly can't see what they are doing to help the world. In fact, the homeless in Southeast are some of the rudest I've ever met (I was born and raised in NYC, I moved here at age 21.......I've seen A LOT of homeless....................) why are we helping them? On more than one occasion I have been asked to give by a vagrant and then met with opposition upon my gift not being "enough." Portland homeless people take advantage of affluence and the 'guilt' that comes with it. Offer a sandwich directly or don't offer anything at all. This corporation surely employs people if they have the time and manpower to deliver a note to my door. Stop helping them feed rude people. If they want help they can ask for it. It probably doesn't help that there's a methadone clinic right down the street from this place. Free food and fixes, how could the junkies resist? This place should close their doors based on the service they provide.

As big as the sea I love thee.
Hi, Michael. We accept walk-in volunteers, but our greatest need is dinner time, Mon thru Thurs 4:00 to 7:00, Friday 12:00 to 2:00 and Sun 1:30 to 4:00. Also, weekday morrnings 10:00 to 1:00 tend to be busy. Thanks for your interest. We hope to see you soon! Brian Fallon Director St. Francis Dining Hall
