Knowledgeable, friendly, and very reasonably priced! We almost bought some discounted apple trees from Lowes and we would have made a big mistake. Someone helped us ASAP, asked lots of questions, and helped us pick out the right trees for our desires and location. They also had lots of resources available to help you care for your plants after our purchase. What a fun experience! We'll be back for sure. :)

This is truly an amazing local nursery. Their knowledge of every plant, fruit, and nut on their property is astounding. The staff will help you find the perfect pairing of plants for your backyard farm. Well worth the trip from B'ham.

This is hands down the best place to shop for trees! My husband and I have purchased many trees and a few smaller perennials from here and are very happy with the quality. When one of our trees seemed to be struggling with the transplant, they gave us a few suggestions on what we could do (it's now on its second year, and doing great). Every staff member we have interacted with has been incredibly helpful and enthusiastic. If the distance is what deters you, the drive is beautiful, and this spot is 100% worth it!

Tom has done an amazing thing here. Education in agriculture and preserving local farmland is a huge step to our sustainability.

The time to control scab is at bloom time. What you can do this time of year is to rake and destroy fallen leaves and spread lime under the trees. For scab control timing, visit our Disease and Pest Management page- https://www.cloudmountainfarmcenter.org/education/grow-tips/disease-and-pest-management-in-the-home-orchard/
At this time, we do not have any open jobs. You can always check on our website at: https: //www.cloudmountainfarmcenter.org/connect/employment/. Best of luck!
You should get tomatoes in quickly if you're growing them outside so they have time to produce this summer. Fruit trees can planted through most of the summer if you can keep them watered during dry spells.
Check out our blog posts on recommendations for apple maggot- https://www.cloudmountainfarmcenter.org/apple-maggot-timing/ This emphasizes barriers, timing and organic sprays. In our commercial orchard, we use a variety of products, including Surround- but this product is not very effective if spraying with a backpack sprayer.
McIntosh grows well on the east side of the mountains, but has fungal issues on the west side. Better choices are Jonamac or Spartan, McIntosh hybrids, available now, or Belmac, which we will have next spring.
The overhead part of the trellis should be at a height you are comfortable pruning. The vines grow quite vigorously, so on a short trellis, you'll be summer pruning or tucking more than for a taller trellis. Our trellis here has 12.5 ga high tensile wire supporting the vines.
