We got a order to go. We called but person I spike with said "I can't hear.." then hung up so we had to drive there and order at the bar. Ordered Horst Gashaus special plate with sauerbraten, 2 sausages, red and white sauerkraut and potato dumpling. Comes with rye bread. Order was very fast (10 minutes) which made me wonder if things are freshly cooked. We also asked for apple strudel. Service was OK. Didn't feel very welcoming...but maybe (looking for right word) perfunctory. Meal was adequate for 2 people. The sausages were good, so was the sauerkraut. They should stop making dumplings. These were not good at all and a potato pancake may have been better. Sauerbraten was dry and pretty bland. Strudel was good but for the price it was an incredibly small piece. Staff had lead us to believe we were going to get such a large piece it was room enough for 2 with leftover. You can be the judge in the picture. Figure to spend $15 to $20 per person (as of this writing) with no leftovers, and certainly no alcohol. Add alcohol, expect the price to rise accordingly.

Wonderful dinner used to go to a place in the Detroit area, this place here was as good if not better than the food there, it was delicious. We will be going back.....

Horst Gasthaus has a great atmosphere. The staff was friendly and efficient. Their menu is authentic and well-appointed with many choices. They have a great selection of German beers both on tap and in bottles. They also have a few nice German wines on the menu. A light rye bread with caraway seeds, served before diner was fresh and delicious. Cabbage rolls were the special of the night. They were well flavored and server covered with a delicious marinara sauce. The Wiener Schnitzel, lightly breaded and fried, was tender and flavorful and served with a lemon wedge. For sides we sampled the red cabbage, the potato salad, cucumber salad, and the potato dumpling. The red cabbage was sweet and had notes of clove. The potato salad was excellent with a smoky bacon flavor with a light sweet vinegar dressing. The cucumber salad was lightly picked in a mild vinegar. The potato dumpling was savory and served in gravy. The portions were ample, but not too much. Deserts on the night we visited were limited to a Cheesecake and a Lava Cake. We opted not to partake. If you’re in the mood for an authentic German meal in a pleasant atmosphere I would definitely recommend stopping by Horst Gasthaus. Be sure to check out their happy hour specials! They said they would be closed Christmas Eve (2021), but open on Christmas Day if you’re looking for a good meal.

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was delicious. I must say the sauerkraut was the best I ever had. The shank and red cabbage was amazing. Our waitress had a lot of large tables and after we received our food had very little time for us. We must have waited and half hour for our check to come. She kept telling us she was getting it and never did. We finally had to get up to go see the hostess. When we did that we got our waitress attention and she finally gave us our check. I use to be a waitress so I completely understand when you get overwhelmed with to many tables, but you never keep a table waiting 30 minutes. We would go back but not ask for that waitress.

It's on Monday's.
Wipe down sanitize menus and tables. Distance and masks by wait staff 8N dining areas. I felt safe.
Open Monday - Saturday at 4pm. Close depending on business, most nights around 8pm some nights a little earlier some a little later.
There web site shows they are closed on Christmas eve. I agree with Chris call to verify.
Around 5:30pm.
Not exactly, but being a German restaurant they have many items that are gluten free: pretty much any of the meats that aren't battered, all their incredible vegetables, and even the mashed potatoes.
Yes, absolutely!
They are closed on Sundays, but rearrange your schedule to go there another day. The place is amazing.
