We just visited the Olympic Peninsula and decided to take the loop road around Lake Quinault and a side trip up Graves Creek. I understand that the area has had some flooding issues, however I cannot believe that the Forest Service has let the roads deteriorate so badly in this area. The Graves Creek road was absolutely horrible for being such a popular road. To say this road has a problem with potholes is an understatement and I can't believe the Forest Service views this as acceptable. I fully intended to mention it at one of the ranger stations however they were all closed, on a weekend, during the summer (hard to believe). The condition of these roads definitely put a damper on our trip around the lake.

Due to shortage of personnel they are.closing the ranger station a lot of the time. There are several trails in the area that are easy to do.

My wife and I ask the Rangers here for neat locations to camp and hike. They are very informative and and full of local knowledge. They can give you road conditions etc. Thank you Rangers!

Stop by and get recommendations on things to do in the park. All the rangers were friendly and helpful. Be patient as there are lots of people coming in at all times of the day and you may have to wait some time before you get to speak with someone.

Yep, permits are by group. So as long as the group is doing the same itinerary you can get permits for the whole party. Just so you know though, they can only give out permits the day of or day before you start your hike.
