This poor review is for the hotel only as the restaurant and bars were excellent. The hotel itself has dated rooms that were very noisy. Between the freeway and the extremely squeaky ceiling from people walking around it was hard to get any sleep. Stay away from room 119. All the furniture shows years of wear and tear. My family stayed here while waiting for our AC to be repaired during a heat wave. I will not be recommending the Monarch to family and friends that are visiting from out of town.

My wife and I along with our 8month old boy were visiting from the Spokane area so some of my family could meet our new son. We chose the Monarch because of the reviews and recommendations. With that and a brief review of the site I thought we would really like staying there. However I was wrong. We called a couple days ahead to see if we could get early check in since our flight was early and we wanted to get a nap in for the kid. The lady who answered told us to call back the morning of. She was not very helpful nor did she seem to care to help us. Something about “being very busy”. Then the morning of before our short 45min flight I myself called and was again greeted by a very impatient and rude lady. Who looked up my reservation and told me in a very annoyed manner that we would be good to check in when we arrived to the Portland area. We drove straight there (1-1/2 after the phone call) and we’re told there is no way we could check in for a few more hours. Thankfully I had family close by that were able to leave work for us to have some where to go. A few hours later when we did finally get to check in (after 3pm) we asked if they could provide us with a pack and play. We also called ahead on this. We were greeted with a poor attitude and very lack luster effort to get us one. In the end after our third time requesting to receive one, we were given one that was broken but all they could give us. Now one to the room. The room was very out dated. Was very small and was nothing like the pictures online. The bathroom area was not clean and with the previous issue of getting ahold of house keeping (pack and play issue) my wife decided to clean it herself because our son needed a bath. The bathroom fan was operable but the casing was broken. There was something splashed on the wall that left a gross residue. If we weren’t spending most of our time out of the room and we didn’t book through a third party I would have refused the room. If the hotel wasn’t booked due to a school district event I would have demanded a room swap. Over all the only thing not disappointing was the beds. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I’m typically pretty lenient on the service industry but this was all due to lack of effort. I took a chance to try and not stay at a big chain hotel and I will not be making that mistake again.

Portland Philatelic. Expositions will be hosting a stamp show at the Monarch in May 2023. We held a planning meeting there earlier this week. I personally have been involved in events there for over 20 years. The food, and service, are excellent and reasonably priced. The staff Is very professional and will take good care of you. If you go there for whatever reason you will not be disappointed.

Positive: We had an early flight into Portland and called the hotel when I landed (like they told me to when I called earlier in the week) and they put us in a room that was ready when we arrived at 10am! Super helpful staff. Clean and definitely worth the cost
