This tiny patch of forest is beautiful however Google Maps list this is a walking trail and it takes two to three minutes to get to the very end from the parking lot. If you want to find somewhere shortly off the road where you can just sit and nature this is your spot. If you're looking for even a short walking trail this does not qualify. That said even though it is paved it is a moderately steep decline that you must ascend after you check out the monument and maybe sit at the bench at the bottom.

A real cool off the road area to check out. It's a really cool piece of history if you're into those types of things. I happened to drive by it and see the sign and decided to check it out. It's a very short hike from the road.

It gets a five star rating for nerdiness. I first ran into the Willamette Stone when the Willamette Meridian was mentioned in a Rose Festival Treasure Hunt clue. During that search I found that Baseline Rd between Hillsboro and Forest Grove is roughly the Base Line for the land survey system originating from the stone. If you could follow Baseline Rd, east from Hillsboro you would eventually find yourself at this spot. If you love history, science and discovering how things work, it is a must see.

Beautiful during the fall, go early as parking can become a headache as it gets crowded.

Mayor Wheeler has technically allowed street camps of 3 people from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. but not at historic sites or state offices. I've not checked recently if this was revoked however. In any case, not at this place as it IS historic.
