River View Cemetery in Portland is great place for a peaceful walk. It is well-maintained and I could wander the stones for hours.

This serene and stately cemetery is sited near the edge of urban activity south of downtown Portland, Oregon in 1882. The cemetery is the final resting place of many of Portland's early leaders, including Simon Benson, George Abernethy, Abigail Scott Duniway, Henry Weinhard, Albertina Kerr, and even Virgil Earp, US Marshal in Tombstone, Arizona, Union soldier, and farmer. The forested and landscaped 360 acres offer a true oasis from the bustle of urban life and its location near the Willamette River provides a wonderful vantage of Mount Hood and Cascade Mountains. I found that the staff at the cemetery were very knowledgeable, professional and friendly, and gave me map copies to find some of my descendants and a few of the local "celebrities".

It's all most Halloween and worker's are all about working and preparing the cemetery for the festivities witch are about to take place on Halloween night. Ghost and goblins will arise and dance the dance with witches and wizards of days long past. Thay will arise from there slumber and walk down this very stair way and dance among the graves with love ones, just as in days long past.

Hi Christian - We do not allow dogs on the cemetery grounds. We appreciate you checking with us.
Hi Juliana - We do allow natural burials without a casket. If you'd like further information, please call our cemetery office at 503.246.4251. Thanks for your interest!
Yes there are sequoia trees, a few blue spruces and three redwood trees that are growing in a cluster.
Parking for the indoor mausoleum/office is located outside of the office at 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road. As you enter the driveway off of Taylors Ferry, you'll wind your way to the top of the hill until you see the office.
He is up toward the top...to the south.. Sometimes there is a small flag there... .but if you call the cemetery they can give you a map of the place....making it much easier than typing the locale... 😀
