What a serene and peaceful place. It was such a learning experience but at the same time a place to wander and relax. I’ve never been to a fish hatchery so learning about the benefits of one was awesome. Bring quarters because there is two ponds where you get to feed some Rainbow trouts. They don’t have a change machine. This place is very scenic and very educational. Definitely put this on your list to check out when you are in the Portland area.

Hands down the best hatchery I have visited, very well laid out and scenic, with added value of the large sturgeon. Gift shop on site and a few historic elements to view. Plenty of parking, including larger spaces for those pulling trailers.

The Bonneville Fish Hatchery is one of the most fascinating places to visit to see up close a fish hatchery operation. In addition to the hatchery is the sturgeon pool area where you can see these prehistoric fish up close. During this visit there were 8 to 10,000 salmon coming over Bonneville dam and headed upriver to spawn. The grounds here are quite nice with easy access, plenty of parking, and picnic areas. Definitely a fun place to visit.

My husband went here as a child, and it was just as wonderful as he remembered! He was so happy to see that Herman, the massive sturgeon, was still around, even after 10 years since his last visit here! I made a video about this on my YouTube channel if you’re interested in seeing the size of Herman! ♥️

I am not sure if he was evacuated during the fires but I am happy to say as of 10/17/18 he is still there and looks great!
Sturgeons are fish, they evolved alongside dinosaurs in the Triassic period, but are a separate classification. What was left of the dinosaurs evolved into birds of today.
Indent think you are allowed to put any thing in water all off limits, but they do have a window that's show fish under water
Yes
Bonneville is a salmon hatchery operated by rhe state. Google around Yamhill oregon. A fish farm out that way
Just seen him today he's just laying on the bottom not moving much these days in the cold water
It's open.
No, but there may be members of the local tribes selling some around Cascade locks
Bonneville did get some of the fires, but the hatchery is just fine and so are the fish.
Not sure sorry call fish and Wildlife
It's a pretty open area so i would assume it's ok as long as the dog is on a leash.
Totally free, and great. You can bring quarters to use to buy fish food and feed them. Fun for younger ones.
