Im sure it's wonderful, beautiful! But today my husband and I traveled 2 hours to be able to visit. Closed. Checked the web, checked the day. Arrived a little before 2:30pm. Supposed to close at 3:30pm. Closed. Not sure when we'll be traveling that way again.. chained. We couldn't believe it and left extremely disappointed.

Really enjoyed it. So understand they do have set times for the house tour. You can't see it alone because it is very valuable stuff they have invested a lot of time and money in recovering and you would miss out on a lot of great stuff and information. The outside buildings he explained and we saw on our own. We love to see stuff like this so to see mostly original was amazing. I have the imagination of how and what they did. My husband loves to see the craftsmanship and that sort of thing. I am not from the south so I still get confused on the who is who. Can't beat 10$ and I really wanted to give a tip etc. We had a snooty girl with us. She wanted to do what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it. Please, a little self respect and of rare history, hundreds of years old, so the other 12 of us on the tour could hear and enjoy.

Such a cool place! I've never seen a plantation with so much original furniture and outbuildings in tact! A must see! They need more publicity. The guides are so kind sms very knowledgeable. Tell your friends!

Questions & Answers

Do you have a definitive date of the building of Prestwould? I have read various dates. I would be most grateful to hear when it was built. Sir Gray Skipwith 8th baronet, moved to Alveston House in the village in the UK in which I live.

Prestwould minor house construction was started in 1790 and finished in 1796. The Plantation was approximately 10,000 acres.
