The most beautiful park we’ve been in in a long time . The game warden was so friendly and concerned with everyone in the park during a storm, that forced us here. We stayed the night during the storm, and liked it so much the next day that I walked a mile back to the office in the rain, so I wouldn’t have to break camp on our RV, and on the way back the friendly Game Warden stopped and asked if he could give me a ride back to our RV. He also checked on every camper to make sure we were all safe. Definitely we will be back.

Site 27 is right on the lake. Beautiful view of the lake, sites spaced out well, short walk to showers.

Exhausted Trying

We made last minute reservations, so our sites weren't on the lake, but the lake is beautiful and our sites were in clean condition... well, our friends' site was littered with lots of cigarette butts which would be hard for host or groundskeeper to pick up amongst the rocks. (If you smoke, dispose of your cigarettes properly!) Rode our bikes around the campground - an easy ride and beautiful. Hosts were very friendly. From Sunday to Thursday, the campground was nearly empty and oh so quiet for the most part. There were two bathroom facilities: an updated bathhouse at the front of the campgrounds, and a 'toilets only' that's extremely dated... two stalls per side (men / women) and a sink - no soap, no paper towels, no air dryer. Neither stall on lady's side would latch. We ladies like our privacy! Updating that facility would be nice. Our camping group did see a waterfront site occupied in the middle of the week by a small group without camping gear. We soon realized they had no intention of staying the night - just smoking a heck of a lot of weed (skunk week, btw - trash) before slithering back to wherever they came from. We do wish there had been better supervision by the rangers to prevent this - no one manned the camp gate office from Monday to Friday making it possible for anyone to come (smoke a boatload of weed) and go. That's a little scary, right? But otherwise, campers were friendly, sites were very attractive, and lake was beautiful. We'd go back!

JC Cooper Campground clean and nice facilities. Bathhouses, especially the showers could be cleaner but tolerable. Some nice beach areas. Down side...only 1 bathhouse for entire campground.

Questions & Answers

I was wondering if there is a place to go if you get there before check in time?

You can check out the public swimming side. If no one is on your spot you may be able to go ahead and set up

Is there a public boat ramp for people that are not staying at the campground? And is there 24/7 access to it?

If you go down Satterwhite Point road to lake Straight to dead end is ramp to drop boat. No pay Then anywhere else on lake is serveral ramps, but cost 7$ to enter gates do not lock. Only gate that locks is at 9 pm to swimming area at Satterwhite Point. All other gates don't lock. Usually after 7-8 pm depends on what time the booth close, it doesn't cost to get in. If you are a senior citizen it only cost $5 per day to pass And what some people don't know is once you pay to pass the booth. That pass is good that day for anywhere on Kerr Lake.going and coming all day. I just wanted to point this out because I have had people camping next to me that didn't know that they could go every where else on the lake. This rule applies to camping, swimming area, boaters, and visiting. So I hope this helps you in some way, Have Fun, enjoy the lake and be SAFE of all things.

From the campground at JC Cooper, really usually everyone picks up firewood around the park, where trees are cut down or fell , everyone just picks up,but no chainsaws are allowed, Then during the day Satterwhite Point marina is open about 1\2 mile from campground and at night till 9-10 pm Store on corner of Satterwhite Point road and nutbush rd. To buy ice and firewood, but the wood is expensive, Hope you enjoy your stay, I live about 15 minutes away and I stay at lake camping 2_3 months out of the year, Enjoy your stay.
