Beautiful, serene, friendly, clean remote state park with large sites and trails of the Appalachians.

This is a beautiful Park, with Beautiful Amenities, went camping there with my family on 4th of July Weekend. We booked Site 27, while our friends stayed at the surrounding sites. We Enjoyed the Trails, the Beach, biking, and fishing there. My Children had an awesome time, the people there were nice and wonderful people.

This park is huge! We have been here three times so far and each has been in a new area. You will not see the whole park one one visit or even three for that matter. Loved the hiking trails.

We just spent 4 days at the park at site 75. This site sits far back in the woods which means anything whatever you bring with you, you will have to hike up a hill to bring it in. We wanted this privacy but be warned. If you have mobility issues or want a little less walking, or immediate access to your car while at your campsite, this (and 74, 76) might not be for you. One great thing is that the tree cover at this site made the rains a little more bearable. There are rocks all over the site too which made tent placement a challenge but we managed two tents on the site with a kitchen tent. During the week it is very quiet and calm. The front bathhouse was the only one open the entire time. The newer one that sits further back in the campground was not open which meant quite a hike each time you had to use it. Otherwise, it was a restful and much needed escape.

Two pets allowed per individual in the park and on trails, but not at canopus beach it appears. The official state park website lists this as their pet policy: "A maximum of two pets are allowed in campsites and day use areas unless prohibited by sign or directive. Pets are to be supervised at all times and either be crated or on a leash not more than 6-feet in length. Proof of rabies inoculation shall be produced if requested by staff. Pets are not permitted in playgrounds, buildings, golf courses, boardwalks, pools and spray-grounds or guarded beaches (this does not apply to service animals)."
