I had a gum graft surgery with Dr. Kissel this summer. I was given localized numbing shots that were small and effective. I appreciated how Dr. Kissel explained each step of the surgery and called to follow up the evening following the procedure. The staff has also been so helpful -- my insurance has been difficult to work with but Viviana has kept following up on my behalf in order to make sure the insurance has received everything they need to process my claim. I am so happy I chose NYC Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.

I have had two extractions and two implants performed by Dr. Kissel with almost zero post-operative discomfort. Dr Kissel uses conservative surgical techniques, the latest technology, and his own expertise to ensure the best possible patient outcomes. You can also expect him to call you at home that evening to make sure you are doing ok.

Questions & Answers

Does laser dentistry used in the treatment of gum disease hurt?

Pantelis Charalambous | Dec 12, 2021

That's actually a common question asked by many patients. The fact is that laser dentistry is gentle and minimally invasive. For example, laser gum disease treatment is less painful and causes patients less anxiety than traditional gum disease treatment because there are no incisions. The laser removes only bacteria and nothing else in the process, which means less pain, less bleeding, and no strong pain medication. Is scaling and root planing an effective treatment for gum disease?

Pantelis Charalambous | Dec 12, 2021
NYC Periodontics and Implant Dentistry: Scott O. Kissel, DMD, PC | Dec 12, 2021

It's effectiveness depends on the severity of gum disease or periodontitis. This type of treatment is the most common option for men and women who have a milder case of periodontitis. Scaling and root planning is used to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria through a deep cleaning process that focuses on tooth roots. Most patients can find relief and see improvement from this one treatment. For more information contact me at https://implant-periodontist-nyc.com/book-consultation/

What's the advantage of using microsurgery for dental implant procedures?

Unlike more traditional dental implant techniques microsurgery techniques make the surgery and recovery time easier and faster. Microsurgery is performed under a microscope and by using micro-instruments, allowing me to make smaller incisions without stitches compared to the larger, more painful incisions of traditional dental implant surgery. Microsurgery also significantly reduces the risk of complications since the better one can see, the more knowledge one acquires resulting in careful manipulation of tissues and critical anatomy. I have been told that instead of having dentures, I can have dental implants. But I'm a little unsure how successful or effective this would be. Can you please give some advise as to whether it would be worth replacing my denture with implants?

Hi, unlike dentures, dental implants are designed to be permanent and create beautiful, healthy smiles that enable patients to eat and chew their favorite foods without running the risk of their new teeth moving or shifting. I use microsurgery to perform the procedure, which makes the surgery and recovery time period easier and faster for you.
