Absolute joke. Wife got a ticket while on vacation. Never was able to pay the $45 citation online even tho the ticket said we could. No answered the phones. Finally got a call back after the court date to inform us the ticket was now $130. Nothing but a revenue generating scheme.

Really disappointed in the way our case was handled today. We had a hearing set for a specific date and time per the papers sent via mail. We showed up 45 minutes BEFORE our hearing and asked the person at the information desk to please look up our case and direct us to where we needed to go since this was our first time being at court. They told us to go upstairs and sit in the waiting area and someone would come out and call for us. They instructed us not to go in but to wait. Well about 15 minutes past our scheduled time, we went back downstairs to check and make sure everything was ok. A different employee informed us that our hearing was in Courtroom B and we need to go up there. So we went. When we entered the courtroom the judge immediately started harassing us. He told us we were late and he already made his judgement in favor of the defendant since we weren’t there. I tried to explain that we were told not to enter the room and that someone would be out to get us but he cut me off and ordered me to have a seat. I went to sit down, apparently in the wrong area, and was once again scolded. Then my father in law (who by the way was there with his SERVICE DOG) tried to tell the judge that he was hard of hearing and if he could speak a little louder and the judge YELLED at him: “DO NOT SPEAK. YOU DO NOT OPEN YOUR MOUTH DO YOU UNDERSTAND! YOU KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT” all while pointing at him. I didn’t realize going to law school meant you could blatantly disrespect people and show out. Like I said, this was our first time having to appear in court and we weren’t exactly sure how everything was supposed to work. During the hearing the judge also made some very nasty comments and assumptions about us (Which I’m sure the other party stated since we weren’t in there and the judge wouldn’t hear our testimony since we were “late”) and instead lectured us for 30 minutes before dismissing us. I wish I had the judges name so I could make a formal complaint. The courthouse employees need to be better trained on where to tell people to go so we aren’t late to our hearing (that we were 45 minutes early for) and made a fool of by the judge. Extremely disappointed in Wakulla County Courthouse for allowing this to happen and for the disorganization that resulted in a loss for us.
