SVA was a place of hope and refuge for me when I discovered the "Celebrate Recovery" group that met here in around 2013. Celebrate Recovery (CR) was, at that time, a phenomenal group of down to earth, "real", truly warm, welcoming, honest people sharing real life struggles of all kinds (not just addictions) in a truly safe environment. I always felt safe there. I came into the group "on the fence" about Christianity (Jesus/God) - questioning but open to it. The unwavering faith and devotion these people had despite all kinds of struggles in their lives prompted me to go to Sunday services where I discovered a bald, jean clad, down to earth, "real" and always humorous Monty as Pastor along with incredibly talented musicians and vocalists and music/songs like I'd never heard before at church - I actually liked it (more than liked). I didn't find it nauseating like I've heard at services before but was actually really moved by it. I felt a real connection here and sense of community seeing and connecting with my CR people at Sunday service - it all kept me coming back. I don't remember the exact year the church decided to eliminate the CR group at this location but for any and all of us that found true strength, connection and support here that was a devastating decision - like being cut off from a life line. There's other CR groups at different locations throughout King County but none of them have the same "blood" - different people, different vibe. The "180" group that was created to fill in the gap of not having CR around really misses the mark for me. I don't feel at all safe in this group (for one it's a mix of men and women vs. the separate men's/women's groups of CR - if you're a woman triggered by men's issues around "deviant" behavior...you can imagine - kinda not good.). Aside from this, I find a few key people anything but "safe", warm, welcoming, accepting, loving, non-judgemental... Then Monte (and his band) left for greener pastures along with many people of the congregation that I felt a connection to and what remains here at this church is anything but the SVA I stepped into several years ago. I'm sure SVA is just as good of a church as any other you can find anywhere else, it's just not the very special, unique place filled with a lot of very special down to earth, "real", truly accepting people that it was when I first found it.

Very poor lighting at night. Most outdoor lights were off or not working. VERY dark and dangerous parking lot. Just because your a church is no excuse to skip on safety.
