The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has all but abandoned this preserve. They empty the trash, but haven't mowed sections of the trail all summer, leaving waist high grass in the middle of the trail and hazardous plants like poison hemlock growing unchecked. No way I would take my dog on these overgrown trails. Too high likelihood of ticks. IDNR should be ashamed of the conditions. Perhaps they should consider turning this property over to LCFPD.

Do my long walks sometimes in this area. Nice and peaceful. Some weeds along the side of the road need to be tended to, but overall, very nice!

Opening and closing changes depending what time of year is is. I think it's mostly dawn to dusk. No camping. lots of parking. Kind of dangerous swimming if you go in the water just a couple of feet gets really deep really fast. Lots of underwater obstructions also.
No
Opens at 8am. No dogs allowed on beach, but surrounding trails are okay as long as the dog is leashed.
