Cozy little place, with a great host. Sites are clean and varied, if small. Lots of dumpsters, could probably use one at the end though. There are few trails down to the river, most are steep and a bit overgrown. Outside of the ones at the turnaround, I found the easiest access in the turnout across from the second toilet. The sandy little ravine was dry and it made for easy crossing out towards the water. Site 13 is the most isolated, but 12 has the best view.

Stayed here for three nights last week. I would recommend it! PROS: super clean bathrooms always stocked with TP, (currently) very friendly camp host, close to Darrington (5-minute bike ride into town), close to trailheads for easy/short hikes, next to the Sauk, lots of shade from towering maples with lichen, rather small campground (I think 14 total sites?), easy river access at turn-around/end of campground near Clear Creek bridge. CONS: right off Mtn Loop Hwy (the sites are between the Sauk River and the highway) so some road noise, vast majority of sites do not have mashed-out trails down to the river, no running water at campground.

No real access to water from any of the campsites except one. Very overgrown. Needs trails to the water. Only access is campsite 12. Rest of everyone has no access. Also a mistake by rec.gov for a wrong closure to the campground. Cancelled our reservation after 6 months and just got confirmation that we are still on then two days later cancelled due to fire. This was for a campground in CA not WA. Human error. Still got to go and rec.gov they were great about it but there is no really good access to the water at this campground and it is very overgrown so trails you could probably once walk down to water are not accessible anymore. We stayed in site 7. Thought it was on the water side. It isn't. Tight for a camper. We took a 28' travel trailer with 1 slide out. Barely fit. Better campground for tents or small truck campers. No real way to do a 3 pt turn here. Very overgrown sites. Site 12 is only site with water access. If you stay at this site be prepared for people to walk thru your campsite to get access to the water beach. Don't get mad about it. Just understand it's the only site where people can really spread out in groups and access the water. The only other site area is at the end of the turn around. Tiny and rocky. And usually full of people that come and go. I will attach pics of site 7 and the water area around site 12. With 102 degree temps. It would have been nice of site 12 campers to allow others to access the water. Guy was ok with it. But woman was not. Just be kind to others especially whenever it's 102 outside. 🙄 Our family probably won't go back here again. Too little access to depend that your site 12 neighbors will be nice enough to let you enjoy the campground river. Water pics are from walking through site 12 (when no one was there) down to the large area that more than one site should be able to access. 🙄 BTW: must be a good river to kayak and white water raft on. Saw lots of those go by.

Well maintained pit toilets. Even on memorial weekend were clean and well-stocked. No running water or showers, of course. Bring a filter and solar shower and you'll have it all. Poor beach access. The one spot that seemed like it would have good access was blocked by a large RV. Could use a sign before the turn to let you know it's coming as it's located on a blind corner. Beautiful surroundings close to lots of hikes. Forgotten groceries or food have nearby access to Darrington. Nice to have the shallow creek access for dipping feet in the freezing water on the hot days.

Recreation.gov

It is located DIRECTLY on the Sauk river. So yes.

What exactly does "walk up" mean? Does that mean first come first serve or a remote site for cyclist/hikers?

It's reservations. Can go to recreation.gov to get a site. Just know only one site has access to the water front. Others will walk through your site to get to it. Just be understanding of this. It's site 12. It's big enough area you can share and space out from others.

These sites are not good for motorhomes. Our 28' travel trailer barely fit with one slide out and there's no good turn around or even to do a 3 pt turn
