I had nothing short of a great experience with Tammy Begun and her team, (Jackie & Alexis) from the beginning of my case. Tammy was very professional, personable & respectful. She listened carefully to my concerns and answered all my questions in a timely manner. Tammy made me feel very comfortable through my entire process. I knew I was in good hands. She’s a fantastic, compassionate and strong lawyer. I feel so grateful I had her by my side. This was truly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I wish I would have found Tammy sooner! I recommend Capital Family & Divorce Law Group to all my friends and family because they will fight for you every step of the way and you won’t regret it. 10/10 highly recommend.

Tammy is by far the best lawyer the DMV has to offer. The way she never gave up on her clients even someone personal I know. Whatever her law firm pays her they need to 2x her salary.

Tammy is extremely unprofessional. It’s so unfortunate to see “educated” folks act extremely disrespectful and mannerless. So sad.

Questions & Answers

How do I start the process of filing for divorce?

To start the process of filing for divorce you must file with the appropriate Circuit Court a complaint for absolute divorce, and/or a complaint for limited divorce. Once you pay the filing fee and file your complaint, along with a civil domestic information form, you wait until you receive in the mail a summons. You must serve the summons with the complaint and the civil domestic information form on the defendant spouse. You must follow the Maryland rules for proper service in order for your case to start in the courts.

Can I get a divorce without going to court?

Even if you are getting an uncontested divorce based on 12-month separation or mutual consent where both parties are in agreement that they want to divorce, the Plaintiff (the party who files the case) must go to court and give oral testimony under oath. In a mutual consent divorce, both parties must go to court to give live testimony.
