john deer lawn tractor 175 on the mower deck the device that draws the drive belt to the mower tight...is it a chain or spring connection...or anybody got a picture

It would most likely be a spring. Your referring to a belt tensioner. I have only ever seen them use springs to keep tension on tbe belt so it stays in contact with the pulleys.
