My wife and I took the River Cruise tour with Mark on October 21. He was an excellent tour guide . I was impressed that he knew the names of all the architectural firms and the dates of completion of all the buildings. His knowledge of the history of Chicago helped us gain an understanding of its development. On October 22, we took a walking tour of the art deco buildings near the river. Allison was an excellent guide giving us an understanding of the art deco movement in Chicago architecture.

The Chicago Architecture Center is a small and intimate space filled with a lot of awesome information that extends past topics of architecture. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the exhibits. The CAC is probably most famous for their architecture river cruise, which I highly recommend, but they also offer a lot of walking tours with many different types of themes. Be sure to check out their website to see everything they offer.

Recommended site whether or not you are an architect. Good place to learn about the history of the city, its most important buildings and why the city has been developing as it is now. The best is the great model of the city.

Open House Chicago is an annual festival with most events and access free, though there are some premium and members only areas that have a fee and may require registration.
Buy parking in any of downtown’s parking lots and take a quick cab ride. Best parking is a lot name as far as I can remember.
Start with this resource from the City of Chicago: • Your House Has a History: http://webapps.cityofchicago.org/landmarksweb/static/pdf/Your_House_Has_A_History.pdf
Most of the walking tours are free for members. The bus tours are discounted but not free for members. Members get one buy-one-get-one-free entry to the boat tour, but other than that there are no member discounts on the boat tour.
For most casual guests we recommend an hour to see our exhibits including the Chicago City Model Experience in the Chicago Gallery, the Building Tall exhibit in the Drake Skyscraper Gallery, and several changing exhibits. Add 20 minutes or so and you can take a restroom break and browse the Shop.
Every 1 hour more or less

They don't provide or recommend architects for any building. Tours, yes.
The Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise Aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises does stay on the river. It does approach the lake and then turn back for a spectacular view of the skyline.
The river cruise rates, with taxes, in 2022 are $55 for cruises which depart by 5pm. Twilight departures which depart later than 5 are $59. We do not have student rates. Infant rate is $25.
Try ParkWhiz or SpotHero for a close spot that's a lot less expensive. I think it was $14-16 in Illinois Center when we were down there last month.
At the bottom center of every page of our website you will see a "Volunteer" option. Click that and you will get the most current information about our volunteer needs.

Architectural models and the Chicago model and the architecture store, and member ship information.
From Street level at Michigan and Wacker it is 2 full flights of stairs down to river level. If you would prefer a ramp down to the River Walk can be found on the North side of Wacker Drive between State and Wabash. Head East a generous block to reach the Chicago's First Lady docks.
The Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise aboard Chicago's First Lady departs directly across the street from the Center. You do need to go down 2 flights of stairs to get down to river level. Look for the blue awning!
Join the foundation and you can go on all the walking tours. Included in your membership
The CAC offers one boat tour at different times every day during the season. Same tour. It is the best one on the river.

You might want to ask the foundation directly, instead of Google users.
