Dr. Maggass was able to fit me in last minute and took care of everything I needed today. I felt so comfortable getting care here as a new patient, and found all of the staff to be so pleasant and helpful. My prior dental records had been obtained and insurance benefits confirmed before I even walked in the door despite the fact that I’d only been able to fill out my new patient forms about 30 minutes prior to my visit. I truly can’t recommend Dr. Maggass and his staff enough!

Staff was amazing and very accommodating in all aspects of setting up my appointment, and keeping me in communication along the way with insurance and changes. Can't say enough about Lindsay and her attention to detail during my checkup and cleaning after a 3 year hiatus. The new office and updated technology is best in class. Go see them - they are awesome!

I love Dr Curalli's office - everyone who works there is friendly and helpful, the office is always super clean and peaceful, and I've had nothing but pleasant (and painless!) experiences there in the last two years. Highly recommend!

Dr. Curalli and his entire team at Smile Ballard are wonderful. I’ve always been nervous about the dentist, but everyone is friendly, gentle, and understands the anxiety! This is the first time in my life I don’t dread the dentist!

What causes periodontal disease?

Smile Ballard (Owner) | Aug 12, 2022

Poor oral hygiene. But more specifically, plaque is the primary cause of periodontal disease. Plaque is a buildup of harmful bacteria and acids. When this plaque isn't removed due to poor oral hygiene and/or avoiding professional dental cleanings, it hardens and turns into calculus. This causes gingivitis, an irritation and inflammation of your gums. If left untreated, gingivitis turns into periodontitis, causing pockets between your teeth and gums that fill with bacteria. Contact us if you're due for a cleaning or think you have periodontal disease.

Is a root canal painful?

Smile Ballard (Owner) | Aug 12, 2022

No! A root canal procedure shouldn't hurt when done by a trained professional with modern technology and tools. In fact, the pain associated with a root canal actually stems from the pain caused by the infection inside your tooth before getting treatment. How often do I actually need to visit the dentist?

Do I need a root canal?

Smile Ballard (Owner) | Aug 12, 2022

A root canal is necessary when the inside of your tooth becomes infected or damaged. If left untreated, the infection will spread, increasing your risk for additional dental problems, painful symptoms, and overall health issues. Signs you need a root canal include severe tooth pain or sensitivity, discoloration, swelling or tenderness of the nearby gums, and bumps on your gums. You may also experience no symptoms at all.
