The sleep center used to be a very good provider before they built their new building and started having a call center take all the calls. I can never get a hold of someone on my care team when I call in, and their response to their patient portal is hit and miss at best. Its very hard to get my medications filled in a timely manner. Its a mad shame because I used to really like the care I got here, but it seams they have sacrificed quality for...whatever they have now I guess. That being said when I do manage to get a hold of someone not working in the call center, they are willing to help, albeit they do tend to make mistakes more frequently than they used to, which wouldn't be a big problem in itself if I could get a hold of someone who could actually help. As it stands now I am strongly considering switching providers at this point.

Find a different sleep center. The wait times are too long if you actually have a sleep problem and they regularly drop the ball so you basically have to keep them on speed dial and check in every couple of days. Their response? You’re one of many (read: not important) that need a sleep study done (read: it’s actually a prevalent condition) and there’s nothing they can do (read: they won’t staff correctly to help people). It’s really sad.

Around two years ago, I finally was granted a hard to get appointment for the help I desperately needed with hard core insomnia. The evaluation was done by Jack D. Edinger, PhD. I brought with me the summarized account of my daily and weekly sleep pattern plus the stream of thought writings I made during days of no sleep. Both these things were, I thought, insights into what sort of insomnia I was going thru. My sleep disorder began when I stopped taking a very strong anti anxiety drug I’d been taking for about ten years. Not only did this man reject my offer to read what I had hoped would help with the evaluation, but he said ‘no, I’ve read ones just like them lots of times’. With his insistence that I might have ‘sleep apnea’, which I assured him I did not, he finally said we needed to start with a sleep apnea test. And that was it. When a patient comes to a health professional for help, we have a certain amount of vulnerability making us hope and trust that we will finally get that help. I’m ashamed that I didn’t tell this man at the time what I thought of his unprofessional and uncaring attitude, but I was just too tired and let down. I don’t know anything else about NJH because I never went back.

ask your doctor for a sleep aid. Request a larger room or a smaller room. ask for a male or female tech if you are worried about that. i worked in the sleep department for a few years. it is very simple and for your heoath benefit. sleep techs truly do care about your health. i still work for National Jewish.

Can you please advise on whether or not National Jewish, or another organization in the area, accepts CPAP machine and/or (sealed/unused) supply donations?

As far as I know they do.

How does a sleep study costs without insurance

Depends if it's a split night or no PAP titration. Maybe try a home sleep study which is about 900.00. I do know if you are paying out of pocket they offer a discount.
