Location is relatively close to the city, yet feels remote just enough. the campground is not too large. Canopus lake across from it with the beach, free parking for campers. it also has a concession stand with some staple grille food and a little store with necessities, bathrooms and changing rooms, an outdoor shower to rinse off. Canopus also offers boats to rent. Picnic areas, fishing. Closes at 4, no lifeguards on duty, also it gets quite crowded on popular days, as seems like all locals flank there. so they may close the gate much earlier. Sites are different, something for every taste. Generally very few seem to get enough shade, which was a problem during a heat wave. They have some events at the nature center, great for kids. Amenities are plenty (i've never seen so many water pumps at a campsite). They sell firewood at the registration desk which is open 3-9pm. Bathrooms and showers are in good condition, could be a tad cleaner but overall everything works great and seems like the renovation was pretty recent. A lot of sites are along the road, so you have some "traffic" constantly. this mainly affects sites 1 - 30. Also the first 20 or so sites get some noise from Taconic highway. Many first sites don't have space to pull the vehicle in, and people are parked along the road. Some of these sites are clustered pretty close. as you go down to the "loop", there are some variations. 72-79 are relatively spacious and not clustered. 73. 54-68 are clustered on two large open areas. did not seem like they get any shade and they are on lower grounds, we saw some standing water there after the rain. 74,75,76 are off the cliffs, you need to climb over some rocks are roots to get there, but they get a lot of shade between the trees. they are not suitable for small kids but probably get the most of wilderness feel. 42 is right next to the shower/ parking, so it gets "visitors" constantly.

Amazing campground so near the city. Proper nature.

Had a lovely time in this campground. The showers were pleasant and clean, and the spot was well maintained. Ten out of ten!

This is one of the best campground that is close to NYC. This was my fourth trip. Good for family camping as there is a nearby lake beach.

30 minutes/ 25 miles
15 dollars per campground plus a 9 doller reservation fee or else a 2.50 walk in fee. There is a limit of six people per campground
No electricity at the sites.
I don't think they have a limit for the number of tents, but it is a max of 6 people per site.
