Iconic San Antonio eatery. The only downside was there were quite a few events the weekend we went so the wait was long. Aside from that the atmosphere was warm and friendly, we had a really good service and the food was delicious.

Ate here on a recommendation. My partner and I are visiting from Michigan. He had The Egg Cheese Bacon Breakfast Sandwich. I had The Bisquits & Gravy with Chicken. We both had Rootbeer. His Sandwich was good, tasteful. My Bisquits and Gravy good. Hashvrown nice & crispy flavorful. Chicken coating nice & crispy. Coating had a little heat to it.

Wasn’t really looking for German fare while I was in San Antonio but I walked by Schilo’s and got intrigued. Housemade root beer served in a frosted mug sealed the decision. Though not German, the chicken and sausage gumbo might be one of the best things I’ve *ever* eaten. Kielbasa with the housemade mustard was exactly what I’d want from that dish, and the root beer was outstanding. 10/10 would come back on my return visit!

We are waiting for a second run of bottled root beer. We are sold out! We expect more in after Memorial Day. Thanks for asking.
We sanitize between customers as well and temperature check our employees. We ask that you wear your mask whenever you are not seated at your table. Thanks for asking!
Didn't see it listed on the menu.
Absolutely! You can build your own sandwich for a pastrami sandwich or you can enjoy are most popular sandwich, The Reuben. The Reuben is made with corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese on Rye bread. It's delish!
Yes Anna. We are on Commerce Street just past the bridge. Enter through the first door on your left. Welcome!
We have Tomato basil soup, potato pancakes, fruit and many other choices
Last time I was there I believe I bought some of that cheese, but I would definitely call to check before driving down, not sure if they still carry it.
Bruce, we believe Edgar was Fritz Schilo's son who was the founder of Schilo's Deli. The Schilo family operated the restaurant for three generations until 1980 when the Lyons family purchased the restaurant. Schilo's is still owned and operated by the Lyons family. They are also the family that started Casa Rio in 1946.
Yes! Simply call the restaurant during our regular hours of operation to place your order to be shipped. Enjoy!
