Absolutely amazing community! I can not say enough wonderful things about the studio and all of the instructors. I felt very welcomed and comfortable in every session and appreciated the kindness of all the instructors. The small class sizes made the sessions more personal and the instructors were able to give much closer guidance and support to all the members. I started pilates to recover from a back injury and within just a few months I felt exceptionally better! I was stronger and I regained confidence in my body!

I would like to highly recommend Studio Evolve, a local Pilates studio in my neighborhood in Wallingford. I began doing Pilates in 2008 in Bend, Oregon. We also have a condo in Seattle, here in Wallingford. When we were here half the year, I began going to Studio Evolve. We are now here in Seattle full time. I used to also go to a local gym, but when Covid occurred, I cancelled my gym membership. However Studio Evolve quickly began doing Pilates on Zoom. I did it twice a week and it was fantastic during that time. The classes are once again in the studio using the reformers. I am on their twice a week schedule. Since I no longer have a gym membership, it is doable and definitely worth it to me. The studio is spotless, with air purifiers and has taken all Covid precautions very seriously and followed all necessary recommendations. The staff at the studio are very personable and skilled. They have accommodated me several times when I had medical issues that required putting my membership on hold. Pilates has changed the way I feel. I feel stronger, my balance has improved and I just feel more confident about my physical condition. I feel I can do any physical activities I wish.

I have been going for 4 years (two years remote during the pandemic) after trying various other stduios. The instructors know their stuff. The equipment is clean and well maintained, and the studio is bright and airy.

My Gyrotonic practitioner has helped me stay very active past age 65. She has particularly helped me improve my back, joints and feet. I like that she encourages me to appreciate my body and be kind to it. The studio is convenient, has modern equipment and a nice relaxed environment.

Questions & Answers

I am looking to start doing Pilates and Gyro. As a beginner, how often do you recommend doing these to feel all the benefits that they have to offer? Thank you!

Hi Hilary! You've found the right place for Pilates & Gyro:) When starting out, it is ideal to do sessions 2-3/week. By starting out with regular sessions more than once a week, you'll pick up the movement faster and feel the results sooner. Of course some folks can only do sessions once a week and that is still beneficial, it just may take a bit longer before you're comfortable on the equipment and really start to feel yourself getting stronger. Depending on your goals and your starting point, lots of people start out with private sessions for a couple of months and then add classes in to their regular schedule. Our 3 private sessions Intro Package is the best way to get started. We're happy to make a recommendation for an instructors if you send us a private message. Is Pilates a good idea for someone who is finishing treatment by a physical therapist for lower back pain?

Absolutely! Once you get the OK from your PT, starting with private sessions would be great. We love it when our instructors can connect with your PT so that we can be sure to understand what to focus on when you’re starting as well as any contraindications. For many folks, part of the process of reducing back pain includes stretching your sides and opening up your hip flexors as well as strengthening your abdominal muscles. If you start with strengthening, without including lengthening what is short, you’re not going to get as much comfort in your body. Each body is unique and each person animated their anatomy differently. With private sessions, we can get you to less pain more efficiently. How long would one expect to see results if attending Pilates reformer classes twice per week?

Generally speaking, you should feel results after a couple of weeks. A 2-3 x/week practice is a great way to get the ball rolling. That said, it may depend on what results you are hoping for - generally though, even with long standing issues, people often start to feel improvement after a couple of weeks of 2-3x/week sessions. This may be faster with private sessions as all of the exercises are specific to what you're wanting to address. Then, there is the famous Joseph Pilates quote - after 10 sessions you'll feel different, after 20 you'll look different and after 30 sessions you'll have a new body! So there is that as well :) We'll see you soon!

Does Studio Evolve offer multilevel classes for those of us who are just getting back in to Pilates after taking time off for a few years?

We do! We currently have several Multi-Level Small Classes as well as a few Intermediate Level Small Classes. If you're familiar with the reformer, don't have any major injuries and know you want to do classes, then starting with our 3 Small Class Intro pkg is the way to go. If you'd like a refresher on the Reformer or want to get some personal attention before transitioning into classes, then our 3 Private Session Intro pkg is for you. As our client base grows, we will continue to add more classes to the schedule - so just let us know if there is something specific you'd like to see! Looking forward :)
